Blackbird Leys Leisure Centre, Oxford
Oct 2013 – Jan 2015 – Willmott Dixon Construction – Value £250,000
In October 2013 MMK started work on the above project to construct a new leisure centre which included an olympic size swimming pool and all external works including drainage, attenuation works and the installation of three 14m x 2.0m washout tanks for the maintenance of the new swimming pool in very tricky ground conditions. The main excavation of the pool was excavated with a de-watering system installed around the pre -piled ground due to the high water table and the running sand conditions. Over 1500 m3 of inert material was excavated and removed from site. The piles were broken down to the required level utilising a pile cropper attachment with a 21t 360 excavator.
The shuttering and concrete package was placed elsewhere so when the main pool area was excavated MMK Civils Ltd moved onto the externals whilst other contractors shuttered and poured the walls to the main pool. This included the installation of a 45m x 7m attenuation tank with a connection into the main storm drainage system. Also we had to excavate and install 3 no Backwash tanks with a drainage connection from the Main Pool again in very difficult ground conditions, and the foul drainage connection was via a new 1200mm diameter manhole built on the existing network to incorporate the drainage network from the new build.
MMK Civils Ltd also completed all external works including new roads and footpaths and final preparation for the surfacing to the new large car park area and access road, and all topsoiling to the landscaped areas as required.
